The tour starts from the Golden Gate (Al-Rahmah Gate) on the Western Wall of Al-Haram Al-Sharif and the Old City noting that this gate is sealed since the Ayyubid period. The visitor walks from the Golden Gate to Lions’ Gate entering the Old City heading towards Al-Haram Al-Sharif. The visitor can explore landmarks in Al-Haram Al-Sharif such as the Dome of the Rock, Al-Aqsa Mosque, Al-Marwani Mosque, Moroccan Gate and other important landmarks. After enjoying the rich history of Al-Haram Al-Sharif, the visitor walks through Al-Silseleh Gate towards Al-Buraq Wall viewpoint. Afterwards, the visitor will be greeted by the Omayyad Palaces built during the Omayyad period until finally arriving at the Moroccan Gate.
Ziqaq is a project that aims to create a reliable source of information about the Old City of Jerusalem in both Arabic and English through an easy to use ICT application. The project has the power to attract young people’s attention with the goal of raising the awareness of relevant stakeholders including youth about the daily lives of the Jerusalemite community. The application includes maps, photos, and information about the landmarks of the Old City and the reality of the political situation in it guaranteeing an enjoyable experience for the users of the application. Ziqaq can be accessed through a website, application on smart phones, iPads, or tablets.
